Tuberous Breast Deformities
What Are Tuberous Breast?
Tuberous or tubular breast deformity, sometimes referred to as "constricted"; breast, is a developmental disorder referring to a breast with a thin, tube-like shape. The base of the breast is narrow with an unusually long skin envelope. Women with this condition are often self-conscious and embarrassed for anyone to see their breasts.
The degree of the deformity can be similar on both sides; however, it is often asymmetrical, with one breast being significantly smaller or larger than the other. The range of deformity can vary from very mild to severe. In fact, one breast may be normal while the other is deformed.
How Can Tuberous Breast be Corrected?
The treatment is somewhat complicated, but typically involves
expanding the base of the breast with a breast implant, lowering
the inframammary crease, and reducing the bulging of the nipple
and areola. After surgery, patients will have rounder, more
natural appearing, and symmetrical breasts.
